n 1630s New England, a Puritan family is banished from its settlement and establishes a farm beside a vast, forbidding wilderness. When their infant son disappears and the crops begin to fail, fear and suspicion turn the isolated family against itself. Written and directed by Robert Eggers, The Witch draws upon period accounts and colonial folklore to create a meticulously crafted tale of religious terror, repression, and supernatural evil. Its slow-burning tension and haunting imagery make it a modern masterpiece of folk horror.
