Global Café: Feeding Community with Heart, Grit, and Generosity

While many of us stayed home during last weekend’s winter storm, the team at Global Café did what they’ve always done best: they showed up for their community.

As icy conditions swept through Memphis, Global Café banded together to cook and serve hot meals for neighbors in need. Not only did they remain open to support residents of Crosstown Concourse and the surrounding neighborhood, but they also partnered with Second Chance Kitchen to deliver meals to shelters across the city. In just three days, the team prepared and distributed nearly 700 meals.

This effort was powered by true entrepreneurial grit. When conditions made it difficult for staff and suppliers to get where they needed to go, Global Café’s general manager, Juan Viramontes, stepped in—personally picking up chefs in his truck and making ingredient runs when deliveries weren’t possible. It was an all-hands-on-deck moment that reflected the resilience, resourcefulness, and generosity at the heart of Global Café’s mission.

Global Café is more than a restaurant. It’s a mission-based business built on the belief that food can be a force for dignity, opportunity, and connection. Their response during the storm is just one example of how they continue to lead with purpose—serving not only incredible food, but also the greater good.
