SUMMARY:Crosstown Arts Presents: Mark Edgar Stuart & The Blueshift Ensemble w/ special guests Bailey Bigger\, Alexis Grace\, & Infinity Stairs
DESCRIPTION:Mark Edgar Stuart & The Blueshift Ensemble w/ special guests Bailey Bigger\, Alexis Grace\, & Infinity Stairs \nThe Green Room @ Crosstown Arts \nThursday\, December 11\, 2025 \nDoors open at 7:00 pm | Show Starts at 7:30 pm \n$22 in advance (plus fees) | $27 at the door \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE \nBeloved Memphis singer-songwriter\, Mark Edgar Stuart\, joins The Blueshift Ensemble once again for their 4th Annual Christmas Show! It will be an unforgettable evening of songs\, stories\, symphonic sounds\, and shenanigans. Special guests will include Alexis Grace with visuals by Infinity Stairs\, plus a very special opening set by Bailey Bigger & Wyly Bigger. \nYou’ll have a tough time finding a more widely-embraced modern singer-songwriter in Memphis. Quick-witted and empathetic\, aloof but probably alert of the room tone\, most folks will find themselves compatible with Mark Edgar Stuart. His musicality and honest voice showcase a resilient and relaxed artist\, both sage and seasoned. John Prine even admiringly referred to him as the “Remote Control Guy” when they met\, a nod of approval for one of Stuart’s signature songs. Grammy-winning music writer/director Robert Gordon is a big fan\, often spinning Mark’s tracks on his weekly radio show\, and other critics agree: “His acerbic wit is reminiscent of Randy Newman” (No Depression); “Always maintaining a tender demeanor\, his songwriting is smart as it is sincere” (Pop Matters); “His wry\, cutting view of the world makes something old new again” (Paste Magazine); “Damn fine songwriter” (Arkansas Times)

SUMMARY:Crosstown Arts Presents: Kafé Kirk: Kirk Whalum & Special Guest Artist Kandace Springs
DESCRIPTION:Kafé Kirk: Kirk Whalum & Special Guest Artist Kandace Springs\nCrosstown Theater \nSunday\, December 14\, 2025 \nDoors open at 5:00 PM | Show starts at 6:00 PM \n$59 in advance (plus fees) | $70 at the door \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE \nJoin Grammy-winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum for Kafé Kirk\, an ongoing jazz series in Crosstown Theater featuring musical and spiritual collaborations with special guest artists. This concert will feature special guest artist\, jazz pianist\, and singer\, Kandace Springs\, and the opener will feature 2025 Essentially Ellington Champions\, Central High School Jazz Band. \nKandace Springs \nNashville may be the heart of country music\, but it also birthed jazz pianist and singer Kandace Springs\, whose soulful lyricism and raw talent have carried her from parking cars to performing at major venues worldwide. Raised by her father\, a backup singer for legends like Aretha Franklin\, Kandace’s musical journey began when she taught herself jazz and classical standards by ear\, later finding inspiration in artists like Ella Fitzgerald and Norah Jones. Despite working as a hotel parking attendant\, her breakthrough came after her father passed her demo to industry insiders\, leading to a partnership with hitmakers Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken. A pivotal audition with Don Was at Blue Note Records\, followed by Prince’s mentorship\, helped shape her unique sound. Her debut single\, “Love Got In The Way\,” landed her national TV appearances\, and her collaboration with Prince further solidified her place in the music world. Her 2016 album Soul Eyes earned worldwide acclaim\, and in the years following\, Kandace performed on prestigious stages\, including with Sting and Jack White. The pandemic led her to explore other passions like vintage car restoration\, but music soon called her back. In tribute to her late father\, she released Run Your Race\, her most personal work to date. Now\, Kandace is preparing for a new chapter with Lady in Satin\, a stunning homage to Billie Holiday\, recorded with a 60-piece orchestra—a project she describes as one of the most incredible musical experiences of her life.

SUMMARY:Wellness January: Free Film Screening - McFarland USA
DESCRIPTION:As part of Wellness January\, find a little inspiration with a free film screening in the Crosstown Arts Theater. \nMcFarland\, USA\n  \nInspired by the 1987 true story\, “McFarland\, USA” follows novice runners from McFarland\, an economically challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley\, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner)\, a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. Coach White and the McFarland students have a lot to learn about each other but when White starts to realize the boys’ exceptional running ability\, things begin to change. Soon something beyond their physical gifts becomes apparent—the power of family relationships\, their unwavering commitment to one another and their incredible work ethic. With grit and determination\, the unlikely band of runners eventually overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well. Along the way\, Coach White realizes that his family finally found a place to call home and both he and his team achieve their own kind of American dream. \nRating: PG \nRun time: 2 hrs 9 min \n \nWellness January\nEach Saturday features: \n\n11 AM: Free fitness class in the Central Atrium\n12 PM: Lunch break with healthy specials at Global Café\, Farm Burger Memphis\, Juice Joint\, and Mad Grocer (mention the Wellness Offer!)\n1 PM: Nutrition presentation from the Church Health Nutrition Hub\n1:30 PM: Free film screening in the Crosstown Arts Theater

SUMMARY:Crosstown Arts FIlm Series Presents: "All Is Lost"
DESCRIPTION:Nearly wordless and stripped to its bare essentials\, All Is Lost is a masterclass in cinematic restraint. Robert Redford delivers one of the most physically and emotionally demanding performances of his career as a lone sailor battling a relentless cascade of failures after his yacht is damaged in the open Indian Ocean. With almost no dialogue and no backstory to lean on\, the film forces the audience into an intimate confrontation with vulnerability\, perseverance\, and mortality. \nDirector J.C. Chandor turns the vastness of the sea into both setting and antagonist\, crafting a tense\, immersive experience where every small decision carries life-or-death weight. All Is Lost is not just a survival story\, but a quiet meditation on aging\, isolation\, and what remains when modern comforts and distractions are stripped away. Seeing it on the big screen heightens its elemental power and serves as a reminder of cinema’s ability to communicate through image\, sound\, and human presence alone.
