SUMMARY:Caroline Davis: Solo
DESCRIPTION:Caroline Davis: Solo\nThe Green Room at Crosstown Arts \nFriday\, October 9th\, 2026 \nDoors open at 7:00 PM | Show starts at 7:30 PM \n$20 in advance (plus fees) | $30 at the door \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE \n\nCaroline Davis explores sonic textures offered by interactive technologies\, sharing sounds from the saxophone that she considers to be distinctive and quirky. Her solo performances are chosen spontaneously\, given the atmosphere of the room and the people present. \nShe makes use of Pure Data patches developed by the open sources community surrounding the Organelle (the technobear\, shreeswifty\, critterandguitari\, tony j morton\, nobuyasu sakonda\, soxsa\, varicela\, nicky-system\, samesimilar\, and chrisk). \nThe music during this performance will pull from Caroline’s recent solo album\, Fallows\, created during a time of rest on land in Ucross\, Wyoming. Bell hooks was a constant source of inspiration during this time\, through the following ideas: love as a practice of freedom\, radical openness\, maintenance of commitment\, using community as a means of escape\, belief in one’s capacity to transform\, what it means to listen\, and eliminating elimination. \n\n\n\n\nCaroline Davis is a Brooklyn-based saxophonist\, composer\, and activist\, whose work is driven by a desire for connection and a belief in music’s capacity to expand listeners’ ears\, minds\, and hearts. A 2025 Guggenheim Fellow in Composition\, she is the recipient of the DownBeat Critics Poll Alto Saxophone Rising Star Award\, as well as fellowships from NYFA\, the Jerome Foundation\, Chamber Music America\, and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts. Her residencies include MacDowell\, The Jazz Gallery\, Civitella\, and the Rockefeller Estate\, and she has served as a mentor for New Music USA’s Next Jazz Legacy program. \nDavis’s work spans a wide range of creative contexts\, rooted in improvisation and social inquiry. She has released eight albums as a leader and collaborated with artists such as Allison Miller\, Lee Konitz\, John Zorn\, Angelica Sanchez\, The Femme Jam\, Miles Okazaki\, Nicole Mitchell\, Rajna Swaminathan\, and Matt Mitchell. Her most recent release\, Portals\, explores themes of grief and memory\, and she is also a contributor to Terri Lyne Carrington’s New Standards\, a landmark collection of jazz compositions by female-identifying composers. \nIn addition to her work as a performer and composer\, Davis is a dedicated educator\, teaching courses on gender in jazz at The New School and maintaining a private studio at the Manhattan School of Music. Her artistic practice is deeply intertwined with advocacy\, including work for gender equity through This Is A Movement\, and for current and formerly incarcerated individuals through initiatives such as Justice for Keith LaMar\, Freer Records\, Keys Beats Bars\, and Creative Beyond Incarceration.

She exemplifies the elegance and eloquence of a golden era\, while bridging the new soul movement of her fellow contemporaries\, with a transcending grace rarely found within those artists of today.\nA native of Milwaukee\, Wisconsin\, she was born to accomplished musicians Michael and Joyce Oby. Relocated to Memphis\, Michaelyn began singing at an early age gaining the title as “the little girl with the big voice.” She graced the Memphis Jazz scene as house vocalist for The Sax on Sunday Jazz Jam\, where she was featured on WUMR’s 91.7 Jazz Hot Spot. Immediately after\, Michaelyn was singing every week on the historic Beale Street at The King’s Palace Café\, the only jazz dinner club on the strip.\nIn 2019\, Michaelyn relocated to Chicago\, IL\, and is proud to call this great city her new home. For several years she performed while cruising up and down The Mississippi River and its tributaries on the American Queen Steamboat as one of its featured/Guest Entertainers. She is especially excited to add her extensive musical repertoire two solo shows “Feeling Good” and “Lady Sings Ms.Ross: A Tribute to Diana Ross” where she pays homage to those influential artists and genres she has grown to love.\nABOUT DINAH WASHINGTON\n\nDinah Washington was an American singer and pianist\, one of the most popular Black female recording artists of the 1950s. Primarily a jazz vocalist\, she performed and recorded in a wide variety of styles including blues\, R&B\, and traditional pop music\, and gave herself the title of “Queen of the Blues”. She was also known as “Queen of the Jukeboxes”. She was a 1986 inductee of the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame\, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

SUMMARY:Modest Mouse @ Satellite Music Hall
DESCRIPTION:Support from Caroline Rose\nHaving recently completed another successful run with Pixies and Cat Power\, Modest Mouse continues to prove themselves to be one of the most consistent live acts today. Modest Mouse released their highly anticipated new album\, The Golden Casket\, on June 25\, 2021 via Epic Records. The Golden Casket heralds another new chapter in the GRAMMY® Award-nominated multi platinum band’s unpredictable evolution. Produced with Dave Sardy and Jacknife Lee in Los Angeles and in Modest Mouse’s studio in Portland\, the album hovers in the liminal space between raw punk power and experimental studio science\, frontman Isaac Brock explores themes ranging from the degradation of our psychic landscapes and invisible technology\, to fatherhood. The twelve tracks behave like amorphous organisms\, undergoing dramatic mutations and mood swings that speak to the chronic tug-of-war between hope and despair that plays out in Brock’s head. \nTickets on sale now! \n  \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE

SUMMARY:Mastodon @ Satellite Music Hall
DESCRIPTION:Support from Deafheaven and Alcest\nGRAMMY® Award-winning band Mastodon have steadily evolved into one of the most influential\, inimitable\, and iconic rock bands of the modern era. Since emerging in 2000\, the Atlanta quartet have defied both sonic and thematic boundaries with an uncategorizable\, undeniable\, and uncompromising vision unlike anything else in music. This vision manifested over the course of canonical albums such as Leviathan\, which landed on Rolling Stone’s coveted The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time. Following the seminal Crack The Skye [named one of the best albums of 2009 by Time]\, they earned three consecutive Top 10 debuts on the Billboard Top 200 with The Hunter [2011]\, Once More ‘Round the Sun [2014]\, and Emperor of Sand [2017]. \nOut of six career nominations\, they received a GRAMMY® Award in the category of “Best Metal Performance” for “Sultan’s Curse.” They are the rare creative force whose music can be felt everywhere from Game of Thrones\, Adult Swim\, The History Channel\, and DC comics films to Coachella and Bonnaroo. The group reached another critical high watermark via their ninth full-length\, Hushed and Grim. Featuring the GRAMMY® Award-nominated “Pushing The Tides\,” it marked the band’s third straight #1 bow on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums Chart. Evolving as they usher rock into new realms\, they forever remain the same unpredictable trailblazing beast—Mastodon. \nTickets on sale now! \n  \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE

SUMMARY:We Came As Romans @ Satellite Music Hall
DESCRIPTION:Support from Varials and Cane Hill\nWe Came As Romans continue to progress and evolve at lightspeed\, maintaining a place at the forefront of heavy music and culture. Never content to follow\, they seamlessly alchemize crushing groove-driven catharsis\, spacey electronics\, and arena-size singalongs into a sound that refuses to sit still\, naturally dipping in and out of metal\, alternative\, hardcore\, and rock naturally without breaking a sweat. \nSince emerging in 2005\, the Michigan quintet have pushed the envelope. Following To Plant A Seed [2009] and Understanding What We’ve Grown To Be [2011]\, Tracing Back Roots cracked the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 and catapulted to #1 on the Independent Albums Chart and Top Hard Rock Albums Chart in 2013. \nTwo years later\, We Came As Romans bowed at #11 on the Billboard 200\, while Alternative Press hailed Cold Like War as “a milestone for WCAR.” They sold out successive headline tours and shared stages with A Day To Remember\, Bring Me The Horizon\, I Prevail\, The Used\, Sleeping With Sirens\, Parkway Drive\, and more. Produced by Drew Fulk [Knocked Loose\, Lil Wayne\, Disturbed]\, 2022’s Darkbloom earned some of the highest praise of their career. Beyond applause from Loudwire\, Consequence\, and more\, KERRANG! rated it “4-out-of-5 stars\,” going on to praise the LP as “both a carrier for a knot of emotion\, and a tribute to their friend.” It yielded two of the most successful tracks of their career. “Black Hole” [with Caleb Shomo of BEARTOOTH] eclipsed 102 million-plus Spotify streams\, and “Daggers” [with Zero 9:36] generated north of 32 million Spotify streams. Moving forward yet again\, the band ignite another era with the 2025 single “BAD LUCK.” \nTickets on sale now! \n  \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE

SUMMARY:Medium Build Presents: The King of Having Fun on Tour @ Satellite Music Hall
DESCRIPTION:Support from Eden Joel\nMedium Build’s Nick Carpenter never planned for a career as a singer-songwriter to take him to great heights. But when it did — an ascent made possible on the merits of his razor-sharp and fearlessly reflective tunes\, electrifying performances\, and acerbic\, hilarious wit — he certainly wasn’t prepared to end up so close to the edge. \nNow\, on the heels of his breakthrough 2024 album Country\, years of relentless touring under increasingly brighter lights and bigger stages\, and recovery from the subsequent fallout that often follows fame\, comes King of Having Fun\, Medium Build’s most cohesive\, extroverted\, and joyful record yet. An album made not in an isolated bedroom like much of his past work but live in a studio with his closest friends and collaborators\, it is fueled by a fresh rock-and-roll energy paired with the artist’s familiar lo-fi-meets-indie-and-country sound yet still driven by the biting\nlyrical insight and potent self-examination that has endeared Carpenter to throngs of fans worldwide. Sure to bring Medium Build to a whole new level of stardom through its sheer sonic power and songwriting prowess\, King of Having Fun is the sound of a fractured soul picking up the pieces out of the darkness of rock-bottom and rediscovering real love — for others\, for joy\, and for oneself. \nTickets on sale now! \n  \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE
