After surviving a car accident that claims the lives of her companions, Mary Henry leaves town to begin a new job as a church organist. Hoping for a fresh start, she instead finds herself increasingly detached from the world around her and drawn toward an abandoned lakeside pavilion. Directed by Herk Harvey, Carnival of Souls is a haunting landmark of independent horror, using eerie organ music, stark black-and-white photography, and dreamlike imagery to create an atmosphere of profound isolation and creeping unreality.
